Make Your Own Homemade Ice Pops

With 5 kids who seem to constantly be hungry or looking for a snack, it’s probably not surprising that I’m always on the lookout for fast and easy ways to feed them on a budget. I try to avoid convenience products because I have a son with multiple food allergies. Food coloring, artificial flavorings, HFCS, and a plethora of chemicals and additives that seem to be packed into even the most seemingly “healthy” products have led me to look for healthier and more nutritious alternatives to some of their favorite treats.   Of course, being kids, there are some treats they still wish they could indulge in, such as the popular Ice Pops and Go-Gurt Yogurt tubes. Fortunately, I found a great little item that allows me to make these fun treats at home, and control the amount of sugar and other ingredients that go into them.

Homemade Ice Pops are Easy to Make!

The Zipzicle bags are like a regular zip top bag, but they’re the perfect tube shape for frozen treats. I fill them with smoothies, juice, lemonade, and other fun drinks. Yesterday we were making this delicious Raspberry Lemonade Punch and had some leftover. I poured the leftover punch into a few Zipzicle bags and the kids had them today for a treat. They were wonderful!

These Zipzicle bags are the perfect solution when you want to make your own frozen treats; however, there are a few things you should know to make the process go a little easier. For one thing, the bags are marked with a fill line. It’s important that you don’t overfill the bags or you’ll have a mess on your hands. The other thing I do to make filling easier is I open the bag up with a chopstick, then put a funnel in the top. It helps to make sure the Zipzicle bag fills evenly and there’s no mess on the zipper or the top of the bag.

I hope you enjoy these as much as we do!
