Hot Chocolate Mix
There are a lot of recipes for homemade hot chocolate mix, but most contain either dried milk or powdered creamer. If you don’t typically dissolve these powders in water and drink them, why would they be acceptable in your hot chocolate? Powdered milk is fine for many things, but most people find the flavor not very palatable. When you want a rich, deep chocolaty flavor, you need to use quality chocolate and fresh milk. Of course, you could always make a cup of powdered milk and add the chocolate mix to it, but why would you?
Trust me, this hot chocolate mix will put any of those powdered mixes to shame. This is the way hot chocolate is supposed to taste, warm, rich, and oh so chocolaty.

- In the bowl of a food processor, add the sugar and vanilla extract. Pulse for 5 to 6 seconds until the vanilla is well combined into the sugar.
- To the sugar mixture, add the semi-sweet and milk chocolate chips. Pulse in 10 second intervals until until the chocolate is finely ground and combined with the vanilla sugar. Be careful to not overwork, you don't want to melt the chocolate.
- Add the dark cocoa powder and salt, pulsing again until all of the ingredients are well combined. The mix will be a little coarse, kind of like brown sugar. Pour into a large air-tight glass or plastic jar for storing.
- To 8 ounces of hot milk, add 1/4 cup of the mix. Stir until the chocolate is melted. Top with some whipped cream or marshmallows, if desired.
