I thought a long time before I decided to finally make the plunge and purchase a grill that I could use indoors. I wanted something that would make great paninis as well as sear meats and cook a wide variety of food, such as my grilled surf and turf.
Once I began my research, I quickly discovered that you get what you pay for. There were so many reviews complaining about inferior products that stopped working or didn’t get hot enough to really sear meat properly. When I discovered the Breville BGR820XL had 1800 watts of heating power, I knew this grill was a serious contender for a spot in my kitchen.
After painstakingly researching numerous indoor grilling options, I was convinced the Breville was the grill I needed. OK, the price was certainly more than I wanted to pay, but as with most things – you get what you pay for. I knew that if I purchased one high-quality grill, it would be an investment I wouldn’t have to repeat. I hate buying something only to have to replace it in 6 months or a year because it stops working or never delivered on its promises. I decided I was going to go for the gusto and get the best darn grill my money could buy – and you know what? I wasn’t disappointed.
The Breville BGR820XL comes with removable grill plates that are easy to clean and dishwasher safe, as well as a removable drip tray for added convenience. There are optional flat plates that can be purchased for cooking things like pancakes and eggs, but I haven’t tried these yet.
The temperature control ranges from 310° F to 450° F, with variable settings for low, Panini and sear modes. The patented Element IQ technology includes imbedded heat sensors that immediately respond to a reduction in surface temperature, such as when you place meat on the grill. The sensors detect the drop in temperature and compensate with a rapid recovery to ensure desired cooking temperature is maintained. This is what gives the Breville the ability to sear meat to perfection.
