Fruit Salad is Always Delicious
A fruit salad is the perfect addition to an outdoor BBQ, summer picnic, or just to serve up on a warm summer afternoon. Who doesn’t love beautiful ready to eat fruit? Everyone from young kids to the elderly will enjoy this yummy fruit salad, especially with the fun little twist of a citrus honey glaze that works to balance out the flavors.
I love fruit – all kinds of fruit! My favorite cookies, cakes, and desserts are usually the ones filled with fruit; but, fresh fruit is definitely the BEST. I always feel good about eating fruit because it’s not only delicious, it’s also all-natural, not processed, and has no added colors or preservatives—it’s just plain good for you! There’s certainly nothing complicated about a fruit salad, but it’s a good idea to think about the fruit you plan to use.
A Beautiful and Versatile Presentation
What I love about serving a fruit salad is I know it will always be a hit. You have the versatility of picking the fruit that your family likes, so there should be something for everyone! I used red and green grapes, mandarin oranges, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and kiwi, but here are some other options you might want to try:
- Raspberries
- Bananas
- Apple
- Walnuts (or your favorite nuts)
- Pineapple
- Mango
- Pears
- Cantaloupe
- Cherries are an option, but make sure they’re pitted!
The yummy citrus-honey glaze is delicious, but you can also jazz it up a bit with a dollop of sweetened sour cream or whipped cream. Or, add a little lemon, orange, or lime zest if you really want to make it special!
While there are plenty of options in making a fruit salad, try to plan ahead and think about how you want to arrange the fruit. Balancing the colors can certainly add to the visual appeal. And, while you’ll find plenty of fruit salads with bananas and apples, keep in mind that these fruits need a little special attention. Apples, pears and bananas can turn brown and unappetizing, but toss them in a little orange or lemon juice and they’ll stay looking beautiful. Add the bananas right before serving; they have a tendency to get soft and squishy if left in a fruit salad too long.
Plan your presentation before buying fresh fruit. Think about the various colors and how you can arrange them. With so many options, you can create a new and amazing fruit salad every time you make it! Don’t forget to keep a little fruit aside for an amazing fruit parfait – just add your favorite yogurt. The perfect breakfast, lite lunch, or healthy snack!
