Old Fashioned Strawberry Milkshake
The secret of an incredibly rich and creamy strawberry milkshake starts with the fruit. Fresh strawberries are macerated to enhance their flavor and give this strawberry milkshake recipe and edge over all the others. If you like strawberry milkshakes, you’re going to love this easy recipe.
(reserve 4 whole strawberries to use as a garnish)
4 T sugar
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
3 c vanilla ice cream
1/2 c milk
whipped cream, garnish
Macerate the strawberries:
- Place the sliced strawberries in a large bowl and sprinkle sugar over the top. Let sit for 5 minutes; gently stir, then let sit for another 15 minutes. Add the vanilla and stir gently.
- In a large mixer bowl or blender, add the strawberries, ice cream and milk. Mix until smooth and creamy.
- Serve in soda glasses. Garnish with whipped cream and a strawberry. Serve immediately.
Macerating the strawberries draws out liquid which combines with the sugar to create a beautiful syrup. The end result is a bowl of flavor packed strawberries that are perfect for strawberry milkshakes, strawberry shortcake or a variety of other strawberry recipes.
