There’s a very good reason that this delicious combination of rice cereal covered with a scrumptious chocolate peanut butter mixture, then tossed in powdered sugar has become such a popular snack. Of course, kicking this snack up a few notches for Christmas gives it an extra festive touch. I’ve taken the traditional Muddy Buddies or Puppy Chow and added holiday M&Ms as well as crushed peppermint candies. Better make a couple of batches, this yummy mix isn’t going to last long!

Christmas Puppy Chow aka Reindeer Chow
Everyone loves puppy chow (muddy buddies), and this Christmas version - also known as Reindeer Chow will definitely be a hit. Yummy chocolaty coated rice Chex with holiday M&Ms, and bits of peppermint candy. A fun treat that's quick and easy to make.

Ingredients
  • 1 12 ounce box rice Chex cereal
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4-5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups holiday M&Ms (red and green)
  • 1 cup small chunks from crushed peppermint candy canes

  • 1 12 ounce box rice Chex cereal
  • 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4-5 cups powdered sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups holiday M&Ms (red and green)
  • 1 cup small chunks from crushed peppermint candy canes

Instructions
  1. In a very large bowl, pour in the entire box of rice Chex cereal.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, peanut butter, and unsalted butter. Heat over low heat, stirring frequently, just until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is completely smooth. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. Pour the chocolate mixture over the rice cereal and gently stir to coat. Make sure that the cereal is completely covered with the chocolate mixture.
  4. Place the powdered sugar in a large ziptop bag. Add the chocolate coated rice cereal and shake to completely coat the cereal. Pour the coated cereal onto a large sheet pan and allow to cool completely.
  5. Stir in the M&M candies and crushed peppermint bits. Store in an airtight container.

Variations:

Christmas Puppy Chow is also delicious with Holiday Mint M&Ms or White Chocolate Peppermint M&Ms.
