Hominy Grits
Grits make a delicious breakfast cereal served with butter and salt and pepper, brown sugar or maple syrup. They can also be used as a side dish that can take on any number of flavors depending on what they are paired with. A popular combination is cheese and grits, simply stir some shredded cheese into the hot grits. Hominy grits are also a great addition to soups and stews and acts much like barley or pasta and of couse, the southern classic of shrimp and grits is always a favorite.
Ingredients:
5 c water
1 c grits
1/2 tsp salt
Directions:
Bring water to a brisk boil; slowly stir in grits and salt.
Reduce heat to low; cover. Simmer for 15 to 20 minutes until thickened; stirring occasionally.
Serve with butter and salt and pepper; or sweeten with brown sugar, honey or maple syrup. Delicious served with a side of bacon.
Makes 6 Servings
*If you like your grits thicker, decrease the amount of water used. For thinner grits, increase water.
Try serving fried hominy grits in place of your regular morning grits.
