Perfectly Creamy Grits
Delicious grits every time!
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1/2 cup Old Fashioned Grits (not quick-cooking)
1/4 tsp salt
Directions:
- Bring water to a brisk boil in medium sauce pan.
- Slowly stir in grits and salt.
- Reduce heat to low and cover pan. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until grits are thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
- Serve with butter and salt and pepper.
*For thicker grits, decrease the amount of water used; for thinner grits increase water.
Variations:
Grits can be prepared in a microwave, but it lacks the same creamy texture. However, it certainly makes for a convenient way to prepare them, so you may want to give it a try sometime. Combine 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup old -fashioned grits and a dash of salt in a 4 cup microwave-safe container. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) for 7 to 10 minutes or until the grits are thickened. Stir well.
