Perfectly Creamy Grits

Delicious grits every time!

 

Ingredients:

     2 cups water

     1/2 cup Old Fashioned Grits (not quick-cooking)

     1/4 tsp salt

 

Directions:

  1. Bring water to a brisk boil in medium sauce pan.
  2. Slowly stir in grits and salt.
  3. Reduce heat to low and cover pan. Cook for 15 to 20 minutes or until grits are thickened, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat.
  4. Serve with butter and salt and pepper.

*For thicker grits, decrease the amount of water used; for thinner grits increase water.

Variations:

Grits can be prepared in a microwave, but it lacks the same creamy texture. However, it certainly makes for a convenient way to prepare them, so you may want to give it a try sometime. Combine 2 cups of water, 1/2 cup old -fashioned grits and a dash of salt in a 4 cup microwave-safe container. Microwave on MEDIUM (50% power) for 7 to 10 minutes or until the grits are thickened. Stir well.
